Maximillian Café

The Maximillian Café is located off Arlozorov Street, right next door to the General Exhibition in the heart of the Artists Quarter. With room for 50 inside and up to 120 outside in the courtyard in summer, it is ideal for large groups. It is even possible to book the entire restaurant for private parties and celebrations.

You get the benefit of the air conditioning if you sit inside, and the sun umbrellas on the outside tables mean you can enjoy sitting outside even on the brightest summer's day. The cafe also provides a wifi connection so you can check your emails wherever you sit. In keeping with the feel of the Artists Quarter, there is art on the walls for sale provided by the adjacent General Exhibition Gallery.

The Menu: Dairy

Like many of the restaurants in Safed, all the food is freshly cooked on the premises so you may need to wait while your meal is prepared, especially if you choose one of the baked dishes.

The Breakfast

If you haven't had an Israeli breakfast yet, the Maximillian is the place to try one. Apart from the usual Israeli salad, eggs and toast on offer everywhere, Maximillian uses locally made white Safed cheese for its Zefati breakfast (42 shks for one or 80 shks for two).

The Main Menu

The Pasta

If you enjoy fresh home-made pasta, the Maximillian offers you a wide choice, including ravioli with a choice of mushroom, pesto or tomato sauce. (40shks)

The Most Popular Items

Don't be put off by the price of the salads (44shks). They are huge and are definitely designed to share, so don't be shy and ask for an extra plate or two! In the summer the individual quiches served with salad (48 shks) is one of the most popular items on the menu. For something a little more unusual why not try the fresh figs filled with goats' cheese (40shks -seasonal). The cheese platter for two (80shks) with its selection of local and Israeli cheeses is a specialty or you could try the baked fish (80shks) if you prefer something hot.

The Drinks And Cakes

If you like your juice freshly squeezed, Maximillian offers grapefruit and pomegranate juice in season as well as the more usual orange and carrot juices. Maximillian uses Illy coffee, and offers you soya milk instead of regular milk if you prefer. There is also a chill cabinet with canned and bottled drinks. The Maximillian is has a liqueur license and you can have wine by the glass (22shks) if you don't want a whole bottle. Drinks prices in general are lower than in other cafes in Safed. Choose your dessert from the cakes in the chill cabinet inside or ask about the special dessert of the day.

Groups: If you are coming with a large group, it's a good idea to pre book as there are group menus available.

The Restroom

There are two restrooms downstairs from the main seating area.

Prices

Prices are generally in the higher range for Safed. The Maximillian accepts all major credit cards.
